Azabujuban Abe-chan

未分類

Abe-chan in Azabu Juban is a long-established yakitori and motsuyaki restaurant established in 1933. The first owner, Mr. Abe, trained at a restaurant in Nihonbashi before setting up his stall-style restaurant in what is now Azabu Juban. At that time, the restaurant served motsuyaki and stewed food, and was loved by the people living and working in the neighborhood, becoming a popular restaurant with deep roots in the community.

Although it was forced to close temporarily during the war, it reopened after the war as “National Tavern Abe-chan. As a “bar” where people could casually enjoy drinks and food at reasonable prices, it once again became a favorite of the local people. In 1975, the second generation, Hideki Abe, took over from his father, expanding the restaurant and expanding the menu. While focusing on “Abe-chan specialties” such as yakiton, yakitori, and nikomi, the restaurant has maintained its flavor and atmosphere, and has grown to become a well-known restaurant in the community.

The third generation has now taken over the management of the business, and in 2019 the main restaurant will be rebuilt and begin operating in a new location. While the interior is more modern, it still retains the old-fashioned bar atmosphere typical of Abe-chan, and the familiarity is still valued. The quality of the food is also a priority, and the carefully prepared stew, fresh yakitori, and yakiton remain as popular as ever.

It has become one of the most famous restaurants in Azabu Juban, especially among local regulars, as well as customers visiting from far away and tourists who have heard of its reputation through word of mouth. The third generation is also actively involved in revising the menu and remodeling the restaurant to meet modern needs while preserving tradition.
